Book on Philippine sex cinema at the hybrid congress of The Philippine Center of International PEN and CCP
What makes the first hybrid congress of the joint project between the Cultural Center of the Philippines and The Philippine Center of International PEN on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 2 pm at the CCP Main Theater Lobby exciting and interactive?
Members and non-members of PEN are encouraged to attend the online as well as the on-site forum on truth and freedom of expression. Publishers of all persuasions are also welcome to sell their books. Aptly billed “Free the Word,” the event is a chance for the literary community to share its thoughts and vision for unity amid diversity through discussion and performances by esteemed local and international artists like Nanding Josef, screenwriter Veera Tyhtila, director Adjani Arumpac, playwright Guelan Luarca, among others.
Among the independent and academic publishers to sell their books are Ricky Lee, Good Intentions Publishing, BVV8 Media Productions, UST Publishing House, Aklat Alamid and Ateneo Press.
Award-winning entertainment journalist Boy Villasanta’s latest book “SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Sex Cinema Enfolding Pandemia)” about the historical, cultural and socio-political significance of sex in Philippine cinema will be presented by BVV8 Media Productions.
“Free the Word” also coincides with the launch of LUNA, a semi-annual literary journal featuring new Filipino writing. The gig is open and free for all. Certificates of attendance will be given to PEN members who attended the keynote presentation and open forum of National Artist for Literature Gemino H. Abad.
