SSS announces delay in benefit, pension release due to fire incident

The crediting of benefit proceeds and pensions for members and pensioners will be delayed said the Social Security System (SSS) on Friday, Sept. 16.

This is due to the ongoing restoration of connectivity between SSS servers and its partner disbursement banks after a fire that broke out at the UPS Room at SSS main building in Quezon City on Aug. 28.

"While all member data records are intact, connectivity between SSS servers and partner banks was affected," SSS said.

Members and pensioners who processed from Aug. 25 onwards will be the ones affected by the delay.

"The SSS is asking for members' and pensioners' patience and understanding, while all concerted efforts are being made to restore crediting operations back to normal," the state-run pension fund added.

Meanwhile, the agency noted that the disbursement of the first batch of pensions for September has already been processed by the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).

But the second batch was scheduled on Friday, Sept. 16 from 4:00 p.m. onwards due to a technical issue encountered by the DBP.

On Aug. 28, SSS released a statement assuring the public that no member data records were affected by the fire that hit the main building at 1:43 a.m. that day.

The agency also said that its services in branches nationwide as well as its online platforms were not interrupted by the incident.

But on Aug. 29, SSS announced a temporary downtime of its online channels for "testing in preparation for the continuation of operations through its Business Recovery Center as operations in its Main Data Center have been affected by the fire."

All online channels went back to operations on Aug. 31.
