PH Army dons new CMO beret

The Philippine Army (PA) said Saturday, Sept 17, that it has started wearing a new beret (headgear) for the Civil-Military Operations Regiment (CMOR), its unit that is tasked to foster cooperation and information support between the military and civilians.

Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., PA Commanding General, led the ceremonial wearing of the new beret for the CMOR officers and enlisted personnel at the regiment’s headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on Friday.

Accordingly, the beret’s new flash design represents the five heraldic colors and patterns of the CMO triangle, with the golden yellow background signifying the CMO's "drive for excellence and genuine commitment to serving the people and securing the land."

Meanwhile, new beret was also designed with a ribbon with embedded Latin words "populorium socius," which means "popular support" that "bespeaks the regiment’s mandate."

Capping off the new design is the black borderline which represents the "hazards inherent to the profession of arms."

"I always believed that CMO is the heart of operations. Without it, our efforts in intelligence and combat operations will have no value, because, to triumph, we need to win the hearts and minds of the people," said Brawner, who had served as the commander of the CMOR sometime in 2018 before ascending to the top Army post in 2021.

"To the Army’s CMO troopers, I urge you to excellently carry on your mandate while also influencing state enemies to return to mainstream society," he added.

Brig. Gen. Arvin Lagamon, commander of the CMOR, joined the Army chief in wearing the new beret together with troops as they concluded the ceremony with the singing of the "CMOR Tan Beret Song".
