Timely three-pointers from Mcclaude Guadana and Patrick Montano enabled Lyceum to eke out an 89-81 victory and frustrate San Beda in the NCAA Season 98 men's basketball tournament Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Back-to-back threes from Guadana and Montano easily turned the tables for the Pirates and sparked a late run in the payoff period to secure a 2-1 record.
Montano finished with 18 points built on a 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc along with five rebounds, Enoch Valdez posted 17 points and eight rebounds while Shawn Umali and John Barba scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Pirates, despite trailing by three before their final spurt in the waning minutes, unloaded a commanding 18-6 run to mount their much-needed momentum.
Slowly but surely, Lyceum head coach Gilbert Malabanan expressed delight with the win especially now that his wards have shown immense maturity for the past three games, citing the unselfish basketball that they have played against San Beda.
"First of all, I give credit to my players talaga. Because they're the ones playing with their heart, they're the one's playing talaga who wants to win. Sila 'yong naglalaro doon," said Malabanan.
"Binibigay talaga nila 'yong best nila and nakitako talag ana they play as a team. And that's the good thing na even though sina-sacrifice nila 'yong score nila, ginagawa nila is to give up the ball doon sa teammates nila na libre and that's the good thing."
Guadana, who chipped in seven points, fired a three-pointer with 3:40 left for an 81-all deadlock before Montano's own trey provided a three-point lead in the last three minutes.
The Red Lions just couldn't found their scoring groove in the ensuing plays as Guadana found Umali in the paint, with the big man going in for the reverse en route to an 86-81 lead with 1:45 to go.
From that point on, the Pirates never looked back as Valdez continued the punishment with a conversion off an Enzo Navarro dish, 88-81.
Navarro iced the game with a split free throw, his lone point of the match, with 45 ticks left as San Beda continued to struggle from the field in the final seconds.
JB Bahio paced the Lions with 19 points and five rebounds while Damie Cuntapay (16), James Kwekuteye (15), Peter Alfaro (13), and Winston Ynot (10) all scored in double-digits.
