NAGTIPUNAN, Qurino – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is conducting maintenance work on a national road in Barangay Ponggo here that will benefit more than 3,000 residents.
The DPWH said Tertiary Road, Junction Abbag-Nagtipunan-Nueva Vizcaya Road via Dupax is one of the busiest thoroughfares in Ponggo.
“The preventive work and repair of the road will reduce serious damage to property and minimize road accidents posed by deteriorating and narrow pavement,” District Engineer Lorna B. Asuten said.
Installation of hazard safety markers, such as chevron signages and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, were included to add visibility to the road.
Catch basins and curb and gutter were constructed as part of the drainage system of the P59.85-million improvement of three sections of the road.
Also done were asphalt overlay of the 1.828-kilometer existing carriageway with correction (reblocking), construction of a retaining wall at the end of the first section, concrete paving of shoulder, and installation of line canal with concrete cover, frames, and gratings.
Asuten stressed that the project is at the commercial hub of the town where numerous activities on trade and commerce converge such as the drop-off centers for farm-based products from the agricultural land and upland areas here.
