BLACKPINK sells 1 million copies of 'Born Pink' on first day of release

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK made a successful comeback with the release of their second studio album “Born Pink” on Sept. 16.

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, BLACKPINK’s ‘Born Pink” sold a total of 1,011,266 copies on the first day of release on Sept. 16 to top the daily physical album chart.

With this, BLACKPINK set another record as the first K-pop girl group in history to sell one million copies of an album on the first day of release.

The total for “Born Pink” is 421,956 copies higher than BLACKPINK’s “The Album,” which garnered 589,310 copies in sales on the first day of release on Oct. 2, 2020, and went on to record 689,066 copies in sales in the first week of release.

“Born Pink” had two million copies in pre-orders before its release.

In addition, “Shut Down,” the lead track of “Born Pink,” topped the iTunes Top Songs chart in 43 countries and regions. The album grabbed the No. 1 spot on iTunes Top Albums chart in 54 countries and regions including in the US and United Kingdom.

On Apple Music, “Born Pink” topped the album chart in 60 countries and regions.

According to YG Entertainment, the music video for “Shut Down” tallied 44 million views on YouTube in about 18 hours of release. It had 47.5 million views as of 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 17.
