PNP chief named adopted son of Kalinga

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. was named an adopted son of this province.

The provincial government approved Board Resolution No. 225-2022 passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Thursday, Sept. 15, giving Azurin the title.

In a program prepared by the provincial government at the Kalinga Astrodome here, Azurin presented the Kasimbayanan (Kapulisan Simbahan Pamayanan tungo sa Kaunlaran) and the “Malasakit + Kaayusan + Kapayapaan = Kaunlaran” (Compassion + Order + Peace = Progress) program of the Philippine National Police.

"I just came here to visit you to see and ask your provincial director what are the needs of our police here in Kalinga and I am happy to see that your camp is very beautiful and clean and we really have to thank the LGU of the province of Kalinga for giving us a very nice camp inside the City of Tabuk,” Azurin said.

Azurin visited the Kalinga Provincial Police Office in Camp Capt. Juan Duyan in Bulanao here and showcased the newly acquired firearms, kevlar helmets, and other logistical equipment for the Kalinga PPO.

He pledged through the Directorate for Logistics that he will give one 4x4 patrol car to each city and municipal police station in the province and will be distributed by November.

Azurin awarded medals to Kalinga PPO personnel for their operational and administrative accomplishments.

He congratulated and thanked all the awardees for their excellent job and urged them to be an inspiration to others.

The PNP chief was conferred the title through the "gammid" or recital of culture and tradition of YKalinga performed by Vicente Gumowang, tribal elder from Tanudan, Kalinga.

Being an adopted son of the province and hero of the Tulgao tribe of Kalinga with the name “Inchakas,” Azurin is expected to continue to live up to his name as a brave defender of the oppressed, the outcasts, and marginalized.

Azurin, together with Major Gen. Ronaldo Olay and Major Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr., members of the PNP Command Group, visited this province and received a warm welcome from the provincial government led by Gov. James S. Edduba.

They were also welcomed by other local officials, tribal leaders and elders, religious sector, academe, Police Regional Office-Cordillera director Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar, and Col. Peter Tagtag Jr., provincial police director.

The 1st Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company accorded arrival honors to the visitors.
