The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday, Sept.16, said it is looking into the possibility of implementing online registration of motor vehicles.

Currently, vehicle owners need to visit an LTO office and queue in line for hours just to submit the registration requirements, pay the necessary fees, and receive their registration stickers or license plates, among other things.
In a “Laging Handa” briefing, LTO Legal Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary Alex Abaton said the agency is constantly looking for ways to maximize the use of technology for the benefit of the public.
“Tinitingnan na po natin ngayon iyong feature noong online renewal noong driver’s license, hopefully, pati na rin po iyong online registration ng ating mga motor vehicles (We are now looking into the feature of online renewal of the driver’s license, hopefully even the online registration of motor vehicles),” he said.
“So bahagi po ito doon sa mga programa na kumbaga gusto nating marating sa madaling panahon so that alam naman natin iyong (So this is part of the program, in other words, we want to speeden it up so that we know the) technologies available nowadays, and we want to take advantage of all these improvement,” Abaton continued.
LTO's licensing and registration systems have experienced glitches in the past, resulting in a backlog of transactions.
Recently, the LTO and its information technology provider Dermalog vowed to solve problems and improve the user experience for the Land Transportation Management System, its online portal (LTMS).
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Teofilo Guadiz III stated in a statement that they recently met with the company to discuss how to improve business processes and solutions, one of which is to activate the Motor Vehicle Registration Information System (MVRIS) on the LTMS to help reduce queuing in LTO offices.
