The film will feature stars Mark Hapka and Megan Davis as the former celebrity couple
After ending its story in court, the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial is set to become a TV movie through the streaming service Tubi. Dubbed “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial,” the forthcoming film is set to feature stars Mark Hapka and Megan Davis as the former celebrity couple. Various reports state that the film will document the tragic relationship between the two Hollywood actors in and out of the courtroom.

“‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’ has 'Hot Take' in the title for a reason," Adam Lewinson, Tubi's chief content officer, said in a statement. "With our partners at (Fox Entertainment’s) MarVista, this Tubi Original was fast-tracked into production to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”
“‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’ is one of many timely, culturally relevant original movies to come from our expanding partnership and slate of movies being produced in collaboration with Tubi,” Hannah Pillemer, EVP creative of affairs for MarVista, added. “Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality make watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama.”
The controversial case ended last June with Heard being held accountable for defaming Depp after writing an op-ed piece for the Washington Post in 2018.
“Hot Take” is led by Guy Nicolucci and Sara Lohman as its writer and director, respectively, and is set to premiere on the platform on Sept. 30.
