Five flood control structures in Aurora province have recently been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to safeguard communities from perennial flooding.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO) turned over the construction of flood-mitigating structures in the towns of Baler, Dilasag, and Dipaculao.
A report submitted by DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino and District Engineering Roderick A. Andal showed that a total of P58.8 million was allocated from the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) to build the five protective structures.
In Aurora’s capital town of Baler, a 390-lineal meter slope protection along the Duongan River section in Barangay Sabang was built to supplement the nearby 100-lineal meter wall protection.
The structure protects the community of Sitio Vietnam with stone masonry walls provision that utilizes boats of the fisherfolk during inclement weather conditions.
Another 506.9-lineal meter slope protection now safeguards locals living in Barangay Diagyan, Dilasag town from overflowing river water.
The slope protector is built on a steel sheet pile foundation, stone masonry, grouted riprap, and embankment connecting to existing seawalls of the coastal barangay facing the Philippine Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
While residential areas near waterways in the town of Dipaculao are now safe from flooding with the completion of flood control structures in Barangays Borlongan, Ditale, and Sapangkawayan measuring 192 linear meters, 540 linear meters, and 838.5 lineal meters, respectively.
