Cagayan tourism launches 'mask-off' bike adventures

The Cagayan Tourism Office is launching its first-ever outdoor tourism adventure following the direction of the national government to relax the face mask mandate in well-ventilated public places.

Dubbed as “Fun Bike: Padyak Para sa Turismo,” Aparri Tourism calls all bike enthusiasts to join the Cagayan Bike-Packing Adventure, a day-long "no masks" outdoor adventure to promote the local tourism of Cagayan.

This is in celebration of the National Tourism Month this September as propagated by the Department of Tourism (DOT) to bolster tourism insights in the provinces.

The Bike-Packing Adventure takes off on September 25. Cyclers will start from the historic Arc of Aparri town in Baranggay Tallungan before traversing the municipalities of Baggao, Gattaran, Santa Teresita, Gonzaga, and Santa Ana.

It is a day-long activity of pedaling, hiking, trekking, camping, swimming, and nature exploration that will parade the beaches of Cagayan province, known to be the "Boracay of the North."

Tourism Officer Joanna Delantar, of Aparri Tourism, said that aside from bike-packing adventures, they were also piloting simultaneous events in a month-long activity such as the inter-high tourism quiz bee; photo and video contest; and the Miss Aparri Tourism Ambassadress 2022 that concludes the celebration on Sept. 27.

“Padyak Para Sa Turismo will start at the Welcome Arc to Port of Aparri. The route will include various tourist spots in Aparri to instill massive awareness of the existing tourist spots and traditions of our municipality,” Delantar told the Manila Bulletin.

Delantar said the event will also promote cycling as it is good for health and bolsters moral obligation in safeguarding the environment by employing a smoke-less mode of transportation.

“Aside from encouraging residents to engage in cycling as an alternate mode of transportation, we also want to restore the confidence of people in traveling safely despite the pandemic,” she added.
