BATANGAS -- A village councilman was arrested for possessing guns, bullets and hand grenade in Barangay Ticub in Laurel town on Friday morning, Sept. 16.
Batangas Police Provincial Office director Colonel Pedro Soliba identified the suspect as Rennel Canta, 44, a kagawad of Brgy. Ticub.
He was arrested by virtue of a search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 66 Fourth Judicial Region Tanauan City on Sept. 13, 2022.
At 8:03 a.m., joint elements of Provincial Intelligence Unit Batangas Provincial Office and Laurel Municipal Police Station raided the house of Canta.
Police confiscated a black sling bag, a caliber .38 revolver with no serial number, four bullets, a hand grenade, nine empty fired cartridges for 9mm, a .9mm Taurus pistol with 13 bullets, and another magazine for cal. 9mm loaded 15 bullets.
The suspect is facing criminal cases in violation of Republic Act 10591 (Qualified Unlawful Possession of Small Arms and Ammunitions) and Republic Act 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosive).
The arrested kagawad was brought to the Batangas Police Provincial Office for proper disposition.
