ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-6 said Thursday, Sept. 15, that it can no longer give cash aid for indigent students in Western Visayas as no more funds are available.

For this reason, the DSWD-6 said in an advisory, there will be no cash distribution scheduled for Sept. 17 and Sept. 24.
The DSWD-6 has already requested the DSWD Central Office in Quezon City for additional funding but they have yet to act on their plea.
“But no additional funding has been given yet,” said Atty. May Rago-Castillo, DSWD-6 information officer.
The DSWD said more than 591,000 distressed students in Western Visayas have applied for educational assistance from them online.
At least P101 million has been distributed to 36,131 student-beneficiaries across Western Visayas in the first four payouts.
The DSWD said this city and the province of Iloilo had the biggest disbursement with P35.2 million for 11,686 student-beneficiaries.
Negros Occidental and Bacolod City were second with P28.9 million for 10,256 students.
Capiz had disbursed P11 million for 4,186 students; Antique, P10.5 million for 3,809 students; Aklan, P10.3 million for 3,956 students; and Guimaras, P5.2 million for 2,229 students.
