CEBU CITY -- Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Thursday, Sept. 15, declared an all-out war against illegal drugs in the province.
Garcia’s declaration came during a joint council meeting of the Provincial Development Council, Peace and Order Council, Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council at the Cebu Capitol.
The meeting was attended by mayors and key officials from various national government agencies.
“I would wish to make a statement here in the presence of all of our chief executives and other officials from national government agencies that, here right now, Cebu declares a total, all-out war against drugs,” Garcia said.
The governor said achieving an improved peace and order situation will depend on the province’s ability to address illegal drug problems.
Garcia said that most crimes are linked to illegal drug use.
“Klaro pagka-istorya, kung di na ‘to padayunon ang (Frankly speaking, if we don’t continue the) all-out war against drugs, then there will be no peace and order to talk about," the governor stated.
Garcia encouraged the province’s chief executives and other government officials to help the province’s fight against illegal drugs.
“I hope all mayors and officials of our national government agencies will join me here in this declaration of the Province of Cebu: total, all-out war against drugs,” she said.
