Farmer killed in crowbar attack by nephew in Cagayan


SANTO NINO, Cagayan – A 73-year-old farmer died after he was hit in the nape with a crowbar by his nephew in Barangay Masical here on Tuesday night, Sept. 13.

Lt. Melody Ballesteros, police chief here, identified as the victim as Herminio Tarampi.

Investigation revealed that the suspect, Ronald Cabaruan, 45, had just arrived home from a drinking session looking for food.

Cabaruan got irked with his mother and argued with her after finding out that he has nothing to eat.

He tried to hurt his mother but Tarampi intervened. Cabaruan hit the victim in the nape with a crowbar and one of his eyes popped out.

Tarampi was taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Cabaruan was arrested after the incident and charged with murder, Ballesteros said.

Police said that the suspect had a history of illegal drugs use.

In 2018, he was convicted for illegal drugs and serving probation up to now.
