ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two men were wounded in a shootout with members of a police anti-drug enforcement team here on Thursday, Sept. 14.
Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, said members of the Zamboanga City Police Station-6 Drug Enforcement Team were conducting a briefing outside their station when three men riding on a motorcycle passed by.
Police followed the group after spotting one of the men carrying a gun tucked in his waistband.
One of the suspects, Mohammad Hassan Sapie, fired at approaching policemen who retaliated. As a result, he was wounded along with cohort Al-Jiden Dadijlul Usama and tried to escape.
Police cornered Sapie during pursuit operations. Usama was nabbed in a hospital where he proceeded for treatment of his wounds.
A third suspect, the driver of the motorcycle, eluded arrest.
Police recovered several guns and magazines with ammunition from the suspects.
