P3.7 M worth of fuel discount cards distributed to 1,259 corn farmers in Ilocos Region

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Another batch of corn farmers numbering to about 1,259 from Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur provinces received P3,000 each in fuel discount from the Department of Agriculture-Ilocos Region on Sept. 9, Sept. 12, and Sept 13.

A total of 697 fuel discount cards were distributed to farmers from five municipalities of Pangasinan on Sept. 9 in Balungao, Pangasinan.

An additional 128 discount cards were given away to corn farmers from five other municipalities in a separate distribution day held at Sual Municipal Wharf and Causeway in Sual, Pangasinan on Sept. 13.

In Ilocos Sur, the distribution activity took place at the Candon City Covered Court on Sept. 12 wherein 304 fuel discount cards were distributed to farmers from eight municipalities in the 2nd district of Ilocos Sur.

On September 13, 130 discount cards were distributed to farmers from four municipalities and one city in the 1st district of Ilocos Sur, including Narvacan, Santa, Caoayan, San Vicente, and Vigan City. The distribution was held at the Provincial Livelihood Development Center in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

The total cash gift from DA for this particular distribution day in Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur amounted to P3.7 million.

The distribution activities were attended by the DA-PREC Corn Program staff, OPAg Corn Coordinator, and DA-LGU Municipal Corn Coordinators of the different municipalities of Pangasinan Districts 1 and 2.

Also in attendance in the distribution in Balungao was Tayug Mayor Tyrone Agabas who represented 6th District Congresswoman Marlyn Primicias-Agabas.

The distribution in Ilocos Sur was attended by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Fisheries Office 1's (BFAR-RFO1) Regional Director Segundina Gaerlan, Governor Jeremias ‘Jerry’ Singson of Ilocos Sur, together with Sanggunian Panlalawigan Member Singson, and Efren Rafanan.

The activity was led by Jomar Dayap, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officers (APCO) for Ilocos Sur and banner representative Mark Joseph Rala.

Corn farmers expressed their gratitude for the program which afforded them fuel discounts in just the right time when corn planting season is already approaching.
