Malabon LGU grants financial aid to relatives of deceased senior citizens

The Malabon City government on Tuesday, Sept. 13, started the distribution of financial assistance to the relatives of the deceased senior citizens in the city.

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) led the initial conduct of the distribution at Plaza Diwa in Barangay Tugatog where 121 bereaved individuals from the city’s 21 barangays each received P3,000 cash aid.

The program aims to support the beneficiaries in their daily needs while they are recovering from the death of their loved ones.

According to the mayor, the program is necessary to help the families to somehow ease up the burden of losing their elderlies and to augment accompanying economic losses due to different expenses including hospitalization and funeral.

The local government said that the eligible beneficiaries of the program are the immediate family members of the deceased senior citizens. They can apply for the death claims at the OSCA office within three months since the death of their loved ones.

Meanwhile, OSCA Chairperson Patria Agcaoili said that their office has crafted procedures to easily process the grants for the qualified beneficiaries.

“We are always monitoring the situations of our OSCA members and take notice of their needs, as our city mayor constantly directs us to help in any way possible,” Agcaoili said.

The local government said that the first batch of beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the cash gifts from the city.

The city government is also actively implementing Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016 that aims to provide monetary grants to senior citizens who have reached the age of 100.
