'Habagat' to bring scattered rain showers, thunderstorms over parts of PH

Cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will persist over parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 14.
Residents in Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Aklan, and Antique were warned of moderate to, at times, heavy rains as these may trigger flash floods or landslides in the said areas.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA also continues to monitor the tropical storm with an international name Nanmadol as it may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Thursday, Sept. 15, or Friday, Sept. 16.
Once inside the PAR, the domestic name “Josie” will be assigned to this tropical cyclone.
As of 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nanmadol was estimated at 1,945 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, and was moving northeastward slowly.
The storm has maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.
PAGASA senior weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said Nanmadol is less likely to make landfall and have a direct effect on the country in the next few days.
