Danny Kingad in awe with Demetrious Johnson's improvements

Fourth-ranked flyweight contender Danny “The King” Kingad was amazed at how current ONE Flyweight World Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson met his previous challenge head on.  

Johnson scored a memorable finish when he knocked out Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes in the main event of ONE Fight Night 1, adding yet another clip to his career highlight reel.  

Kingad, who’s faced both Johnson and Moraes, thought he'd seen it all from “Mighty Mouse,” but then the American pulled off yet another impressive performance.  

“I shouldn’t have been that impressed because I felt that DJ was going to win, but wow did he do it in such an incredible way,” Kingad said.  

“I was really surprised with how he finished the match. He’s the GOAT for a reason.”  

One thing that really impressed Kingad was how Johnson survived Moraes’ early onslaught, which included a head kick in the first round and ground-and-pound thereafter.  

But instead of being disheartened by Moraes’ hot start, Johnson turned to his more polished striking. He used his footwork and speed to attack his opponent from various angles and take away the height advantage that “Mikinho” had.  

By round three it was all Johnson. He upped the pressure before that fateful round four, where he connected with an overhand right and finished the match with a flying knee to win the ONE Flyweight World Title.  

“I think that Adriano didn’t prepare his striking as much as he did in the other aspects of MMA. We have to remember that it was his striking that pushed him to victory when he first fought DJ,” Kingad said.   

“DJ has a more grounded approach to his fights, but at we saw DJ throw some pinpoint punches. I think Adriano didn’t expect that DJ would get him with his striking.”
