ILOILO CITY – The Army 3rd Infantry Division (ID) and the Department of Health (DOH)-run Western Visayas Medical Center (WSMC) has inked a blood supply agreement.

“Every drop of blood our soldiers give is a symbol of our commitment to serve and secure the peace loving-people of Western and Central Visayas. We are hopeful that the result of this drive will help save the lives of not only our soldiers but our fellow people in need,” said Major Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 3rd ID commander.
Under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), soldiers under the 3rd ID are the donors while WVMC will have a mechanism for collection of blood and storage.
The MOA also stated that 60 percent of the blood connected will go to WVMC. The remaining 40 percent will be for the infirmary of the 3rd ID and can be used for wounded or sick soldiers.
The partnership started with a Tuesday, Sept. 13, blood-letting drive in Camp Peralta, headquarters of the 3rd ID, in Jamindan, Capiz.
Dr. Joseph Dean Nicolo, WVMC chief, thanked the 3rd ID for having blood donors.
“We’ve had a hard time finding blood donors. So, this is good partnership,” Nicolo said.
Technical Sgt. Fernando Samperoy said donating blood is a symbol of help outside as uniformed personnel in saving lives. He donated blood for the 20th time on Tuesday.
