PAGBILAO, Quezon – Four persons, including a five-year-old girl, were killed while three others were injured in a collision between two tricycles and a truck on the national highway in Barangay Ikirin here on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
Police identified the fatalities as Teodoro and Justina Balitaan, 62; Mary Rose Ravano, 30, and Princess Lara Aro Lopez, 5, all residents of this town.
Officer-on-case Senior Master Sgt. Ryan Lacerna said that the truck collided with a tricycle driven by Marvin Lopez with the fatalities as passengers upon reaching a curved portion of the road at about 9 a.m.
Due to the impact, Lopez’s transportation bumped the tricycle of Allan Jay Rey, 42, who was injured with his passenger Nilda Jaranilla Peñarubia, 56. Lopez’s sidecar detached from the motorcycle.
Marvin also sustained injuries with passenger Marilyn Lopez, 48.
The Pagbilao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) rushed the victims to the MMG General Hospital in Lucena City where four of them were declared dead.
Major Lawrence Panganiban, Pagbilao police chief, said truck driver Junior Rafael Vidaya Jovinal, 42, is in the custody of the local police. Jovinal had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
