Not all registrants will receive educational cash aid, says DSWD spokesperson

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spokesperson Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez reiterated that not all students who have applied online and received text confirmation for the educational assistance program will receive cash aid.
“Gusto ko pong i-reiterate na yung inyo pong online application at text confirmation is not a guarantee that you will receive the educational assistance of the DSWD because ito pong ating educational assistance is subject sa assessment ng ating social workers and availability of funds (I want to reiterate that your online application and text confirmation is not a guarantee that you will receive the educational assistance of the DSWD because our educational assistance is subject to the assessment of our social workers and availability of funds),” Lopez said in a televised briefing on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
After receiving two million applications, the DSWD on Sept. 10 closed the online registration for its educational assistance program for students-in-crisis.
So it doesn’t mean that when you registered online and received a text confirmation, you will automatically receive our educational assistance because it will go through the assessment process),” Lopez added.
Out of the total budget of P1.5 billion, he said that P941.46 million has already been distributed to 375,485 indigent and in crisis students.
Ang ating educational assistance ay once a year natin binibigay (If our funds set aside for our educational assistance are used up, this will happen again next school year. Our educational assistance is provided once a year),” Lopez said.
On Sept. 10 alone, DSWD was able to distribute P35 million cash assistance to 13,842 students in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas that have no access to the internet or smartphone.
Our budget for the educational assistance program is P1.5 billion and almost P1 billion has already been used and distributed to our countrymen so our remaining funds are limited),” Lopez said.
He added that the DSWD had asked the House of Representatives to assist the agency in the continuation of the distribution of one-time educational cash aid.
Our only assurance to our countrymen is that in the coming days, we will distribute by congressional district after the educational payout on September 24. Right now we are asking for your understanding if we cannot reach all applicants for our educational assistance),” he said.
