Man arrested for bringing marijuana to QC mall

A 19-year-old man in possession of 500 grams of alleged marijuana was arrested by two security guards inside a mall on Commonwealth Avenue, Brgy. Matandang Balara, in Quezon City on Monday, Sept. 12.

Lt. Col. Morgan Aguilar, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Batasan Station (PS 6) commander, identified the suspect as Clahy John De Quiroz, from Bacoor, Cavite.

Police said the suspect tried to ship a parcel at a JRS Express branch inside a mall at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

The courier service employee who checked the items noticed something suspicious inside the parcel and approached De Quiroz.

The suspect became uneasy and tried to run, police said.

The employee sought help from the guards of the mall, Arnel Ayson Almado and Joel Bernandez Latigar, who immediately arrested the suspect.

Amado and Latigar reported the incident to the patrolling police officers in the area and brought De Quiroz to the PS 6 for investigation.

Confiscated from the suspect were the 500 grams of "marijuana" worth P60,000.

De Quiroz will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Aside from that, the police visibility is important because our cops can respond immediately to your call,” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

“Nawa ay magsilbing inspirasyon ito at sila'y tularan hindi lamang ng kanilang pamilya kundi maging ang kanilang mga katrabaho (May this serve as an inspiration and may they become role models not only for their families but also for their colleagues)," QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said.
