Covid vaccination incentives are like 'ayuda', says House leader
A ranking solon in the House of Representatives has said that giving incentives in connection with the government’s Covid 19 vaccination rollout was akin to giving "ayuda" or assistance to lesser fortunate Filipinos.

"I absolutely agree that we should incentivize," Deputy Speaker and Batangas 6th district Rep. Lorenz Defensor said Tuesday, Sept. 13 during the Ugnayan news forum.
Before this, a reporter asked if he thinks booster shots against Covid-19 should come with incentives.
"Our LGUs (local government units) continue to do that practice of incentivizing. Yung iba po may bigas, yung iba po may cash incentive, yung iba may discounts (Some give rice, others give cash incentives and discounts)," Defensor said.
"It's also one way of reaching out, na hindi lang sila ma-vaccinate (it's not just for the purpose of vaccination). Parang ayuda na rin po iyon (It's akin to ayuda) especially to the poorer sector of society," he noted.
"Papapuntahin mo sila sa vaccination site, mamamasahe naman sila eh. Kailangan din nilang may dala-dala pauwi (You tell them to go to the vaccination site, they'll have to pay fare. They should bring something home).
"And that's one way of reducing the chance of spreading the virus sa kanilang area kung sila mismo ang dadayo at may incentive silang dadayuhin sa ating mga vaccination sites (in their area if they will go to the vaccination sites themselves and get incentives there," Defensor further said.
The House leader said that incentives will encourage more Filipinos to get the jab.
