TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Police on Sunday, Sept. 11, arrested in Barangay Tanglagan, Calanasan, Apayao a New People’s Army (NPA) rebel wanted for the ambush that killed two soldiers in 2009 in Lubuagan, Kalinga.
Suspect Victor Mangao, 49, alias “Ka Salas,” of Western Uma, Lubuagan, Kalinga and a member of the Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (KLG)-Baggas, was arrested by the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, Regional Intelligence Division, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Kalinga in his hideout.
Mangao was the No. 3 Municipal Top Most Wanted Person of Lubuagan in the third quarter of this year.
Col. Peter Tagtag Jr., Kalinga police chief, said Mangao was arrested on a warrant for murder issued by Presiding Judge Jerson Eckman Angog, Regional Trial Court, 2nd Judicial Region, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
The court recommended no bail for Mangao.
Mangao was among a band of NPA rebels that ambushed soldiers of the 21st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army in Sitio Ag-agama, Western Uma, on April 6, 2009.
A Corporal Pantua and Private First Class Fernando Coloma were killed in the ambush.
Mangao is temporarily detained at the Lubuagan custodial facility for documentation before turn over to the issuing court.
