Meralco Avenue in Pasig City to close for six years due to metro subway construction

The north and southbound portions of Meralco Avenue in Pasig City will be closed for six years, starting on Oct. 3, 2022 until the year 2028, due to the construction of the Shaw Boulevard Station of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).

According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the closure will take effect at 9 p.m. on Oct. 3.

It will cover the front portion of the Capitol Commons up to the corner of Shaw Boulevard.

"Meralco Avenue will serve as the project’s access point to the subway’s Shaw Boulevard Station," said the DOTr.

The DOTr has advised the following public transportation vehicles that are coming from Meralco Avenue and going to Shaw Boulevard to comply with the respective changes in their routes:

Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) - rerouted to Captain Henry Javier St. to Danny Floro St.
Modernized jeepneys - rerouted to Dona Julia Vargas Avenue to San Miguel Avenue
UV Express Vehicles/Units - rerouted to either Dona Julia Vargas Avenue to San Miguel Avenue or Andra Road to Camino Verde

Meanwhile, the rerouted roads are accessible to private vehicles.

Alternative routes for motorists will be announced by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the City Governments of Pasig and Mandaluyong.

Funded by the Japanese government, the MMSP is a mass transit project that boasts of a 33-kilometer rail line, stretching from Valenzuela City to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City.

Covering eight cities in Metro Manila, it will be the country's first underground mass transit system.

Once operational, the subway is expected to significantly reduce travel time and serve around 370,000 passengers daily.
