PH to export durian to China

The Philippines will soon be exporting durian to China as part of the two countries' cooperation in agriculture.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian made the confirmation at a trade conference on Friday.

"The two sides are now negotiating on exporting durian to China," Huang said.

Meanwhile, the envoy also described the economic cooperation between the Philippines and China as "fruitful."

This came when just in the first seven months of 2022 alone, the bilateral trade increased by 12.4 percent compared to the previous years after reaching US$50.03 billion.

"From 2016 to 2021, China's approved investment in the Philippines totaled 161 billion pesos, making China the latter's second-largest source of foreign investment," Huang said.

"Steady but strong growth of investment is seen in digital economy, steel, and high-end manufacturing," he added.

Among the around 40 intergovernmental cooperation projects between the two countries, Xuang shared that 17 have been completed.

After completion, the B-I bridge has become a popular spot in Manila, while "the much-anticipated Samal Island-Davao City Connector project is ready to start construction," he added.
