And it’s finally here in the Philippines
Barely 10 years old, skincare brand Drunk Elephant has been making waves globally. Started by Tiffany Masterson in Houston, Texas, she was on a mission to relieve herself from the many skin issues she has been experiencing. Breakouts, oily skin, sensitivity, imbalance, rosacea, visible pores, and so many more—these skin concerns have led her to try many skincare brands, but nothing really worked.

So let us take you on a quick journey of how Masterson put up Drunk Elephant, why it’s good for your skin, and why it’s worth trying them out.
No “Suspicious 6”
It was when she started her own bar soap that she really looked into the ingredients that go into making skincare products. This was when she realized that taking out these six ingredients made her skin healthier. She refers to them as the “Suspicious 6,” and these include essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances and dyes, and SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate).
Unfortunately, there wasn’t any product that was clear from these six ingredients. So the solution was to create her own line. “When skin is exposed to irritants and sensitizers, damage can be imperceptible and cumulative, leaving it in a reactive mode,” says Masterson.
She also thought she had sensitive skin, when it really wasn’t the case. Our skin has become sensitized due to exposure to these ingredients. For Masterson, it’s easy to maintain healthy skin—”Keep your products high quality and stay away from the ubiquitous ingredients that are not necessary and seemingly at the root of dysfunctional skin.”
It’s biocompatible
Masterson was able to choose effective ingredients that keep the skin healthy. Though it’s not all natural, both ingredients from this category and the synthetic ones are all biocompatible and good for the skin. All of them are at skin-friendly pH levels that are easily absorbed.
Good for all skin types
And since the products are biocompatible, this means that they work with any skin type. “Skin is skin. All skin functions the same if you let it,” explains Masterson. Her ingredient-elimination philosophy gives your skin that much-needed total skin reset, especially for those who have been jumping from one skincare line to another in a quest to find the right skincare partner.

Star ingredient marula oil
We all know how oils, in general, are good for the skin. Masterson believes that marula oil is far better than any oil she has tried. Not only is it high on antioxidants, but also has a good mix of fatty acids such as omegas 3, 6, and 9 that make it beneficial to our skin—only when harvested well. “Drunk Elephant uses a proprietary extraction and filtration process that results in the purest and most concentrated form of the oil, with those delicate antioxidant and fatty acid compounds preserved. Our marula is extracted by grinding and raw cold-pressing the kernels of the South African marula fruit,” she says in an interview with #legend.
So why the name? It originated from the idea that elephants love eating the fruit from marula trees. But the myth that has been passed around is that these elephants get drunk from the alcohol content found in the fruits, which is not true. Masterson played with this idea. Hence, the name.
DIY skincare smoothies
What started out as six basic products in 2013, Drunk Elephant has more than 30 products to choose from. All concocted at optimal pH levels that are easily absorbed, they can all be blended together easily for you to have your very own customized skincare “cocktails.” Now, isn’t this fun?
“I’m so excited to be launching in the Philippines. The Drunk Elephant difference has been such a game changer for so many people, and I can’t wait for the community in the Philippines to experience it for themselves,” ends Masterson.
The collection is available online at Look At Me, with physical stores at select SM Supermalls.
