The Filipino spirit of bayanihan (community spirit) still prevails even abroad.
A total of 52 Filipinos in Cambodia, including personnel of the Philippine Embassy there, recently gathered to assist Cambodian volunteers build homes for members of Svay Chek Thmey community in Sangkat Kork Rokar, Phnom Penh.

The activity was part of the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Cambodia diplomatic relations, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Aside from building homes, Filipinos helped in leading a seminar on Covid-19 and hygiene awareness.
Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Maria Amelita Aquino, in her remarks, said the joint activity proved the long-lasting ties and friendship between Filipinos and Cambodians.
She said the project not only helped in building houses but brought new beginnings and hope for the beneficiary families.
Habitat for Humanity Cambodia, a global nonprofit organization present in 70 countries that aims to provide affordable housing, initiated the activity. Its national director, Bernadette Bolo-Duthy, expressed gratitude for the Philippine Embassy and Filipino community volunteers for helping in its advocacy.
