DepEd: No reported Covid-19 cases among learners, personnel so far
After almost two weeks since face-to-face classes resumed, the pandemic, the Department of Education (DepEd) has not received any report of Covid-19 transmission in schools.

“After verifying with the field offices, we have not had any reports of Covid since the start of the classes among learners, teaching and non-teaching staff,” DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa said during the joint presser of DepEd and the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Despite this, Poa assured that DepEd --- through the regional and schools division offices --- will continue to keep track of possible Covid-19 transmission in schools.
“We won’t stop there, we will continue monitoring every day, every week to see what the situation is when it comes to transmission in our schools,” he added.
The school year (SY) 2022-2023 opened in public schools on Aug. 22. After two years of distance learning, all schools were allowed to hold face-to-face classes at all basic education levels.

As of Aug. 25, Poa said that there are 29.4 million learners enrolled for SY 2022-2023. “We have definitely exceeded our assumption or target of 28.6 million,” he added.
To ensure the health and safety of learners and DepEd personnel after the resumption of in-person classes, Poa said that the set of health protocols crafted in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) is “already undergoing final review.”
