Feast of Our Lady of Buen Suceso on August 10

Devotees will commemorate Wednesday, Aug. 10, the feast day of Our Lady of Buen Suceso (Our Lady of the Good Event), the revered patroness of the city of Paranaque.

Paranaque Bishop Jesse Mercado will celebrate a high mass in her honor at 6 p.m. at the St. Andrews Cathedral, also known as the Diocesan Shrine of Nuestra Senora de Buen Suceso in Paranaque City. Holy masses will also be offered at 6 a.m. and at 12 noon.

The event marks the 397th feast and enthronement of the revered image of Nuestra Senora de Buen Suceso and the 10th anniversary of the parish as a diocesan shrine.

Novena masses were held from Aug. 1 to 9.

The venerated wooden image of the Madonna and Child was enthroned at the St. Andrew’s Cathedral in 1625.

Devotion to Our Lady of Buen Suceso is actively being promoted by the diocese. Perpetual novena to Our Lady are held every Saturday at 6 a.m., 12 noon, and at 6 p.m. at the cathedral. Masses for overseas Filipino workers and seafarers are held every second Saturday of the month, families in crisis every third Saturday, and the youth every fourth Saturday of the month.

Then Pope now Saint John Paul II granted the canonical coronation of the miraculous image as the patroness of the City of Paranaque on Sep. 8, 2000.
