DOH reports 924 new Omicron subvariant cases

The Department of Health (DOH) has detected 924 more cases of Omicron subvariants in the Philippines.

Based on the latest genome sequencing results, additional cases of Omicron subvariant BA.5, BA.4 and BA.2.12.1 were found, said DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Vergeire said there were 906 new cases of BA.5 subvariant.

She noted that 814 of them are now "tagged as recovered, 49 are still undergoing isolation, while the outcome of the rest are being verified."

Of the 906 BA.5 cases, Vergeire said that 682 people were fully vaccinated, 14 people were partially vaccinated, while the vaccination status of the 210 others are still being verified.

Also, 11 cases of BA.4 subvariant were detected. All of them have already recovered, said Vergeire.

Meanwhile, seven cases of BA.2.12.1 were also reported. "All seven individuals are now tagged as recovered," said Vergeire.

To date, the Philippines has already logged a total of 4,013 BA.5 cases, 115 cases of BA.4, and 181 cases of BA.2.12.1.
