Anti-Marcos Iloilo City mayor: First Lady qualified to teach law at West Visayas State U

ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jerry Treñas here sees no problem with First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos teaching law at the West Visayas State University (WVSU).

“She is qualified. She has been teaching the subject for so long,” said Treñas in a press conference Monday, August 8.

Treñas, who vehemently campaigned against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. and backed former Vice President Leni Robredo for President in the last elections, emphasized that politics is over.

“We have to contend that for the next six years, President Marcos will be in power and we will have to coordinate with him and his administration on whatever needs that we have,” said Treñas.

During the campaign, Treñas boasted that he fought the Marcos dictatorship and was even arrested as a student activist. At that time, Treñas rallied Ilonggos not to bring the Marcoses back to Malacañang.

The Iloilo City mayor noted that he personally knows Mrs. Marcos since college days and subsequent law school at Ateneo de Manila University.

“During the campaign, she knew I was supporting Leni. She called me when she was here and she already mentioned about teaching here at that time,” added Treñas.

The First Lady has roots in Iloilo with both of her parents Ilonggos. She is related to the landed clans of Araneta, Ledesma, and Cacho.
