DPWH bares status of roads in Ilocos region

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 1 announced Sunday, August 7, the status of roads in the Ilocos region more than a week after the magnitude-7 earthquake.

The DPWH-Ilocos Sur Second District Engineering Office said that Junction Candon-Salcedo-Del Pilar Road at Kilometer 362+930 is closed to traffic due to land and rockslides.

Clearing operations are ongoing.

The Tagudin-Cervantes Road at Kilometer 346+350 is one lane passable.

The DPWH said cutting and clearing of fallen trees is ongoing.

The DPWH La Union Second District Engineering Office reported that the San Luis Bridge on the Rosario-Pugo Road is passable only to vehicles of up to 10 tons.

Vehicles above that weight may take the Manila North Road/Agoo-Baguio City Road and vice versa.

The DPWH-La Union Second District Engineering Office is monitoring the damaged bridge and coordinating with the local government units of Pugo and Rosario, La Union for load limit restriction implementation and traffic control.

In Pangasinan, the DPWH Second District Engineering Office said that Dawel Bridge on the Dagupan-Bonuan-San Fabian Road is passable only to vehicles of up to five tons.

Vehicles above five tons were advised to take the Pangasinan-La Union Interprovincial Road (Dagupan-Mangaldan Road Section) and vice versa.

A joint team of the Pangasinan Second District Engineering Office and Dagupan City POSO is manning and controlling the area round-the-clock for a smooth flow of traffic.

Commuters were advised to take precautionary measures while traversing affected national roads and bridges.
