TACLOBAN CITY – Police arrested a university employee and seized over P700,000 worth of suspected shabu in a buy-bust operation in Baybay City Friday, August 5.

The suspect was identified as Soliver Gumaod, 37, an administrative aide of the Visayas State University-Baybay City Campus and a resident of Barangay Sabang, Baybay City.

Gumaod is listed as a high-value individual in the list of illegal drug personalities of the Police Regional Office-8.

Police Major J-Rale Paalisbo, Leyte Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit chief, said the suspect was arrested after a police poseur-buyer was able to purchase a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu at the VSU Lower Campus.

Police seized 30 more sachets of shabu with an estimated weight of 100 grams.

The suspect, along with the confiscated non-drug evidence, was brought to Baybay City Police Station for proper disposition.

The drug evidence was brought to PNP Crime Laboratory in Ormoc City for chemical analysis.

Paalisbo said charges for violating Sections 5 and 11 of Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are now being prepared for filing in court against the suspect.
