The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday evening, Aug. 6, said the low pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon may continue to bring rains over the western sections of Southern and Central Luzon in the next 24 hours.

As of 10 p.m., PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 340 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan, or over the West Philippine Sea.

The weather disturbance remains less likely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, but may continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the State weather bureau said.

“Light to moderate with at times heavy rains” may persist in Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Palawan.

“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
