Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Prospero De Vera III expressed gratitude to First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos for joining the West Visayas State University (WVSU) as one of its faculty members under the College of Law.
“Thank you FL Atty Lisa Araneta Marcos for deciding to teach at WVSU,” said De Vera in a Facebook post on Saturday, Aug. 6.
De Vera explained that the WVSU law program was launched early in his term as WVSU Board of Regents (BoR) Chair, “after a long extensive discussion.”
Based on a report, the wife of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. will be among WVSU’s faculty members as confirmed by WVSU president Joselito Villaruz.
Araneta-Marcos, a lawyer and an academic, earned her law degree at the Ateneo de Manila University.
In an interview with Boy Abunda in March, Araneta-Marcos said that she has been in the teaching profession for the last two decades. “I’m a lawyer, I like teaching, I like staying out of the limelight,” she added.
The First Lady previously taught law in several higher education institutions (HEIs) such as Mariano Marcos State University, St. Louis University, Northwestern University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and Far Eastern University.
As posted on its official website, WVSU is a public normal research university located in La Paz, Iloilo City.
It was established in 1924 as “Iloilo Normal School” and became "West Visayas State College" in 1965. The WVSU acquired its university status in 1986.
The WVSU College of Law, established in 2020, is the "first and the only state university" to offer legal education in the Western Visayas Region.
WVSU said that its College of Law aims to “produce trial ready and well-trained lawyers who will become advocates the rule of law and promote the ideals of justice.”
