Romualdez, Carlson tackle stronger PH-US ties under Marcos admin

House Speaker Martin Romualdez received on Friday, Aug. 5, United States (US) Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson in a courtesy call in Makati City.

Carlson was in town to congratulate the Leyte 1st district congressman from being elected as speaker of the 311-strong House of Representatives last July 25, or in the morning of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., first State of the Nation Address (SONA).

But more importantly, the two officials "discuss stronger Philippine-US bilateral relations under the administration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.", according to information coming from Romualdez's office.

Romualdez and Carlson also exchanged mementos.

In past statements, President Marcos has highlighted the importance of nurturing the Philippines' relations with the US--its longtime mutual defense treaty ally.

Also participating in the meeting are Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez, House Majority Leader and Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Manuel Jose "Mannix" Dalipe, and US Embassy Political Officer Kenneth Gardner.

Speaker Romualdez is president of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.
