Rainy weekend ahead as LPA traverses Luzon

(MANILA BULLETIN)

Expect rains in several areas this weekend as a low pressure area (LPA) will cross Luzon, which may enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, August 5.

PAGASA said the LPA was over the coastal waters of Calauag, Quezon, as of 3 a.m.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the combined effects of the LPA and southwest monsoon may prevail over Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela, mainland Cagayan, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Visayas.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in these areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Moreover, PAGASA said the entire archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
