Donaire targets Ioka, Chocolatito

Nonito Donaire is mulling to scale down to the 115 lbs division and take on super flyweight stars Kazuto Ioka, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion, and Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzales.

Donaire said he has been thinking of weighing down prior to his rematch against Japanese bantamweight star Naoya Inoue, who knocked down the "Filipino Flash" in the second round of their bout to unify the super World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF), and the World Boxing Council (WBC) belts last June.

The road to becoming undisputed champion in the bantamweight division was halted as Donaire, a four-division world champion, now plans to get his groove back in the super flyweight.

"It's a really good fight with Chocolatito and people are saying it would be 'legend versus legend,'" Donaire told Probellum.com

"It’s a big fight. But I do like the Ioka fight as well because I want to get that title and become a five-division champion and then move back up to 118 and go for the undisputed crown once everything else is open and I get another opportunity for it."

The former WBC bantamweight champion added that he and Richard Schaefer, his handler and president of Probellum, had talked over the matter.

Donaire added that Schaefer is currently in talks with both Ioka and Chocolatito's camps.

“Making the weight was very simple for me and I made it quickly. I even made 117 before stepping on the scales," said the 39-year-old Donaire, who has 42 wins built on 29 knockouts, and seven losses.

“Richard and I were talking and saying that regardless of what happens here, maybe I can go down to 115 and fight the guys in that division."
