House officials led by Speaker Martin Romualdez discussed with Depaetment of Finance (DOF) Secretary Benjamin Diokno on Thursday, Aug. 4 the Marcos administration’s Medium-Term Fiscal Framework (MTFF), which is seen to consolidate fiscal management and resource mobilization toward the fulfillment of the government’s economic goals.

In a statement, the Leyte lawmaker thanked Diokno for inviting the House leadership to discuss the economic plans of the new administration.
“Our discussion with Secretary Diokno was a fruitful one, and we hope to conduct future consultations with him in the days to come,” Romualdez said.
Romualdez shared that they had a “brief discussion” on the MTFF, agreeing that “should be a fiscal consolidation and resource mobilization plan".
“The objective: in the short run, keep the macroeconomy stable and provide adequate social services; in the medium term, generate ‘more jobs, quality jobs, green jobs’,” he added.
The House leaders, composed of Romualdez, Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto, Ways and Committee Chairman Rep. Joey Salceda, and Appropriations Chairman Zaldy Co expressed their commitment to the six-year fiscal plan as contained in House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) No. 2.
“This gave us an opportunity to discuss, among others, ways on how to forge tighter coordination and smooth working
relationship between the Executive and the Legislative departments,” Romualdez noted.
Diokno and the House leaders met before Malacañang's submission of the National Expenditure Program (NEP), which will be the basis of the proposed General Appropriations Act (GAA) or the national budget, to Congress.
