QC court resets Ateneo gunman's arraignment on murder, frustrated murder cases

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 98 has reset the arraignment of Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol, the alleged gunman in the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) shooting incident, on charges of three counts of murder, frustrated murder, and carnapping.

The hearing of the cases, which was originally scheduled on Aug. 4, will be held in the morning of Sept. 16, according to a DZBB report.

The QC RTC approved the change in the schedule of arraignment after Yumol’s counsel requested for the examination of the suspect’s mental condition.

Yumol was arrested after he shot and killed former Lamitan City Mayor Rosta “Rose” Furigay; Victor Capistrano, the former mayor’s aide; and Jeneven Bandial, and ADMU security guard, inside the campus on July 24.

The Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office filed on July 27 the cases against Yumol.

Yumol on Tuesday, Aug. 2, entered a “not guilty” plea for the illegal possession of firearms and malicious mischief when he was arraigned at the QC Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC)

Meanwhile, the report said the camp of Furigay was dismayed over the deferment of the arraignment but will still follow the process of the court.
