PH should re-state its adherence to 'One-China policy', says Koko
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III said Thursday, Aug. 4 that the Philippine government should re-state its adherence to the "One-China policy".
The government should also be careful on public pronouncements regarding the China-Taiwan-United States (US) issue, he added.
Pimentel, a former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued this assessment following the visit to Taiwan by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which angered China.
‘’This is a very sensitive issue for all the parties involved,’’ he said.
Pimentel then called for ‘’the lessening of tension in this part of the world".
"Let us all avoid acts which provoke other nations," he said.
Senator Imee Marcos, current chairperson of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stressed that the Philippines ‘’remains steadfast in upholding the One-China policy".
‘’We trust the Peoples Republic (of China) recognizes our commitment to peace and prosperity in the region,’’ Marcos, sister of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., added.
