Abra quake victims continue to receive water supply from PH Red Cross

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has distributed 201,427 liters of water to 2,212 families in Abra and Ilocos Sur to aid the communities' need for adequate water supply after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Abra on July 27.

This was based on PRC's record as of Aug. 2.

The humanitarian organization deployed five water tankers to North Luzon to provide clean drinking water as well as for household, sanitation, and hygiene needs.

These are included in the 28 water tankers and 17 Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene hubs already sent by the PRC on the previous days, PRC said.

"They come with a filtration system, storage water bladders, and water taps," PRC added.

According to PRC, sanitation engineers and trained personnel led the collection of water from local water sources to assure its quality.

PRC stated that an earthquake usually results in damage to the water distribution system and water districts or water distribution companies may not be able to meet the required water supply for the areas devastated by the natural phenomenon.

"Ang Red Cross ay may mga water tanker sa aming regional hubs na nakahandang ipadala sa mga lugar na naapektuhan ng lindol (Red Cross has water tankers in our regional hubs that are ready to be deployed to areas affected by the earthquake)," PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon guaranteed.
