2,510 aftershocks recorded so far after destructive 7.0 northwestern Luzon quake

The number of aftershocks following the powerful magnitude 7.0 northwestern Luzon quake has climbed to 2,510, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) disclosed on Thursday, Aug. 4.

As of 11 a.m., state seismologists said that out of the 2,510 recorded quakes, 846 were plotted while 59 were felt. Plotted earthquakes, according to Phivolcs, were located by three or more stations. Recorded quakes, on the other hand, were detected by at least one station.

The destructive 7.0-magnitude quake occurred on July 27 around 8:43 a.m. Its epicenter was traced three kilometers (km) northwest of Tayum, Abra, but it was also felt in most parts of Luzon including Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) situation report as of Aug. 3 revealed that 10 people died, 410 were injured, while 421,728 individuals or 109,009 families have been affected by the quake.
