PH Red Cross prepares for super typhoon Hinnamnor

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) staff and volunteers are on standby for the expected entry of super typhoon Hinnamnor in the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday evening, Aug. 31, or Thursday morning, Sept. 1.

Super typhoon Hinnamnor will be given the local name "Henry" once it enters the PAR and is expected to bring heavy rains to extreme Northern Luzon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The humanitarian organization reminded the public to follow PRC's 4Ps: Predict, Plan, Prepare, and Practise as the super typhoon may bring flash floods and landslides.

Volunteers from the Red Cross 143 program are already monitoring the situation on the ground through its state-of-the-art operations center, PRC assured.

They are equipped with modern response equipment and a data network that will help deliver an immediate response in emergency situations, PRC added.

"Magbantay at maging alerto. ‘Yan ang lagi nating mensahe sa mga Red Cross chapters kapag may parating na bagyo (Watch out and be alert. Those are what we always say to Red Cross chapters whenever a typhoon is coming)," said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon.

As of PAGASA's 11 a.m. bulletin, Hinnamnor was spotted 980 kilometers northeast of the extreme Northern Luzon.

Its maximum sustained winds measures 195 kilometers per hour near the center and has a gustiness of up to 240 kph, the state weather bureau added.
