The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are now investigating the source of an appointment document believed to have been forged, Malacañang said.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said this after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ordered a probe to get to the bottom of the publication of a document designating a new Bureau of Immigration (BI) commissioner.
The Palace said the document did not exist in its record.
In her press briefing on Wednesday, August 31, Angeles said the NBI and CIDG have already started their probe.
"As of yesterday afternoon, I was informed by Secretary Boying Remulla that the NBI has already commenced their investigation. We're waiting from the CIDG," she added.
The forged document, which has been circulating on social media, named Atty. Abraham Espejo Jr. as the new BI Commissioner and has the President's signature.
The news reached the Palace on Monday, August 29, and immediately said that "no appointment has yet been made to the position of Immigrations Commissioner."
"Hindi pa natin nakikita yung original (We haven't seen the original), if any," Angeles said.
"Ang masasabi natin is may lumilitaw na dokumento ay sinasabing may appintment na po pero hindi nag-e-exist yung records base dun sa record search natin (What we can say is an appointment document appeared, but does not exist on the records based on the record search),” she added.
Angeles said they are taking the issue seriously as this could also happen in other instances, mainly using the President's signature in other documents.
