The Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) has recorded marked increases in the retail prices of key agricultural commodities in the first few days of June alone.
Based on the PSA report released on Wednesday, Aug. 31 on Price Situationer of Selected Agricultural Commodities First Phase of June 2022, retail prices of six of seven important farm produce in the market jumped between June 1 and 5.
In particular, the average retail prices of a kilogram of special rice in six trading centers rose by around P0.4 to P5.25 from their price levels on May 15 to 17, 2022.
But the PSA also observed that the average retail price of rice per kilogram dropped by P0.13 in Iloilo City, by P0.96 in Legazpi City, by P1 in Digos City, and by P2 in Tacloban City during the period.
Meanwhile, the average retail prices of a kilogram of pork with bones climbed by P5 to P10 in five trading centers.
However, its average retail price per kilogram went down by P2.5 in Digos City, by P5 in Cebu City, by P10 in Cagayan de Oro City, and by P15 in Cabanatuan City.
At the retail trade, prices of vegetables also scaled up in many trading centers.
Increments in the average retail prices of a kilogram of red onion between the first phase of June 2022 and the second phase of May 2022 ranged from P5 to P39.5 in five trading centers.
However, its average retail price per kilogram moved down by P10 in Pagadian City, by P15 in both Calapan City and Kidapawan City, and by P27.50 in Tacloban City.
Likewise, higher prices of a kilogram of carabao mango were observed, ranging from P2.5 to P40 in 10 trading centers visited by the PSA.
Meanwhile, carabao mango’s average retail price per kilogram was lower by P15 in Cabanatuan City.
Lastly, prices of a kilogram of refined and brown sugar increased in eight trading centers during the first phase of June 2022.
On the other hand, declines in the average retail prices of a kilogram of galunggong were seen, ranging from P2.59 to P25 seven trading centers.
However, its average retail prices per kilogram were higher by P7.50 in Legazpi City, by P10 in both Calapan City and Butuan City, and by P25 in Cabanatuan City during the period.
