BLACKPINK’s ‘Pink Venom’ debuts on Billboard Hot 100; tops Global charts

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK’s new song “Pink Venom” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and reigned on top of two Global charts.

According to Billboard, “Pink Venom,” which was released on Aug. 19, entered at No. 22 for the first time on the Sept. 3-dated Hot 100 chart, which is based on “all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data.”

“@BLACKPINK's ‘Pink Venom’ debuts at No. 22 on this week's #Hot100. It earns the group its eighth career entry and fourth top 40 hit,” according to Billboard.

In addition, “Pink Venom” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US charts, “boasting the second-biggest worldwide weekly streaming total since the surveys began in September 2020.”

“The song is the South Korean pop superstars’ first No. 1 on the Global 200, besting the No. 2-peaking ‘Lovesick Girls,’ and their second leader on Global Excl. U.S., after ‘Lovesick Girls’ launched atop the list in October 2020,” Billboard added.

It said, “Meanwhile, with the coronation of ‘Pink Venom,’ BLACKPINK becomes the first act to top the Global 200 and include a member that has led the list solo; the quartet’s Rosé reigned in March 2021 with the No. 1 debut of her single ‘On the Ground.’ (That track also opened atop Global Excl. U.S., where BLACKPINK remains the only act to hit No. 1 and have a member do the same solo, thanks to ‘Lovesick Girls,’ ‘On the Ground’ and ‘Pink Venom.’)”

On the Billboard Global 200, “Pink Venom” racked up 212.1 million streams and sold 36,000 downloads worldwide from Aug. 19 to 25.

The song also garnered 198.1 million streams and 27,000 downloads sold worldwide outside the US from Aug. 19 to 25 to top the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.

“The two charts rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S. Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations,” according to Billboard.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK made their debut appearance and performance at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) held on Aug. 28.

At the VMAs, BLACKPINK performed “Pink Venom” and took home the Best Metaverse Performance with their “Blackpink the Virtual | PUBG.”

BLACKPINK’s Lisa also won the Best K-pop award over BTS’ “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment),” ITZY’s “Loco,” Seventeen’s “Hot,” Stray Kids’ “Maniac” and TWICE’s “The Feels.”
